I just received a new 85mm f1.8 lens, the same lens I couldn’t contain my excitement about in a recent post. It’s pretty fast at focusing, but its sharpness I haven’t assessed yet, Ill have to check out the pix I took this afternoon under adobe lightrooms loupe at 100%. The pics I took this morning at f1.8 wide open were nice, but I’m begging to have a human subject to photograph.

What I’m expecting out of this lens? Well, because of its 85mm reach, I expect it to serve me in photojournalism. I won’t have to be as near to the subject as I would have to using the 50mm- in low light particularly. In wedding, and in event photography, the reach of the lens and its speed both deserve about equal priority. The lens speed, or f stop, should help me get better natural light or ambient light photographs, indoors. I have pretty high expectations and plan to use this lens a fair bit. That is until the next far off purchase of a canon L lens.
