In the Eye of Princess Psyche

Before I decided to strike out with my brand name of CAT Eye Photography, I practiced some diligence in searching for other business with the name, and for other photographers using the name. I did come across a few photographers’ websites who were using CAT, or some variation of it- kat, cats, or kats. I took into consideration where they were operating, and how established they seemed to be, before I felt it was safe ground to tread on. Part of this brand research involved the domain name search of cateyephotography (which was taken, but for sale then, and still is now…if I had $750+ to spare I might just buy the rights to it. I saw that the other CAT eyes were based internationally, UK, and one in the Phillipines.

Even still, a trademark registration search is still a necessary component of research. It turns out that even though there are other CAT Eye’s on the web, none have taken the step to officially trademark. Hmm.

I also found this company, however, which IS trademarked. CATEYE bicycles @ cateye.com. They’ve got a cool logo, appropriate, and the typeface seems to work.

The other photographers I came across on domestic territory are based in NJ and the other is out in the midwest. The NJ photog is who you may come across first in a google search for “cat eye photogrphy”. Her variation is “Cat’s eyes” however. I endeavor to outrank her and be number one for a google search of cat eye photography…. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Is a daily campaign of mine, and I’ll share tips in upcoming blog posts.

If you’re thinking about using CAT EYE PHOTOGRAPHY, and you’re a photographer, DON’T. The seat’s TAKEN 😉

Cheers.
