I shot this one with a lens I don't often get to use, the Pentax Takumar 135mm mounted on my Canon Rebel T1I. I used an Alien Bee 400 Strobe mounted in a Gridded Softbox pointing down on the figure from directly above the camera.
Another winter inspired shot. This was taken by the post office just across from Madison Square Garden, 8th avenue.
I own one of these, and they're the exact tool for the job when you don't have, or would rather not use a light stand to mount a light source.
I like the pattern of a naked tree. Reminds me of the branching and "arborization" of a neuron. They plug themselves into the open air to soak up all the energy of the sun, natural, functional beauty right there.
I've had a macro lens adapter for several years now, but never had the motivation to try to get the darned thing working. The trouble with macro photography, and with using front element attachments - is that you have to work soooo close to your subject, that it's not easy to remain comfortable for long enough to get a good shot of your subject. It's the incredible amount of patience you need to get your composition and focus JUST...

I just saw this video over on the Fstoppers blog and thought "yes, I'm going to try this for a shoot later this week!" Especially since clouds are in the forecast.

I'm excited to finally have a model I can work with; one that wont get bored, or tired, or hungry, and that I can pose just so. She's got 26 or so points of articulation, which will have to do. I do wish her neck and hips were more flexible though. I can't manage to get her to take some seated poses that involve wrapping her arms around both of her legs; she's just not pliable enough.
